Designing Your Website
Before going off and jumping into coding your website there are some things you should think about first! What’s your purpose on creating your site? What ideas do you want to give off and how do you want to accomplish this? How are you going to keep your visitors interested and coming back for more? Do you want your website to be easy to navigate through or do you want to create a tunnel where users have to go through some pages to get to others (such as a photo gallery)?A good exercise to help do this is drawing out your website on paper. You don’t have to be an artist, just draw square boxes, write the name of the page, and some key content you want to place in there!
When you start coding your website remember to keep a simple and consistent naming system. This will help you greatly while you code your website. It is much easier to type photogal.html then it is to type photo-galleries-album-2.html while coding and even for your end users viewing the webpage. You do not need fancy design programs such as dream weaver to create eye catching sites. All you need is notepad and some experience! Coding a webpage is all about getting your feet wet. The more you do it, the faster you will learn and become better at it.
No matter what you do write in “pretty code”! This means do not jumble up your code. Make sure you seperate it out so it is easy for you to edit later. For example:
<h1> My Cool Website </h1>
<p> Some content about my website </p>
</div>
